How To Feel Great This Winter

The colder months of the year can be a pretty miserable period, particularly if you’re prone to the winter blues. If you ever needed a pick-me-up, now’s the time, and what better way to make yourself feel fantastic than by treating yourself to something new, picking up a hobby or indulging in some well-earned self-care? Whether it’s an article of clothing or an item for your home, you deserve something special.

 Book a Facial

Harsh weather conditions can play havoc with your skin, making it dry, irritable and prone to breakouts. It may also exacerbate skin conditions such as eczema and psoriasis. To promote healthy skin during the colder months, adjust your skincare routine accordingly, focusing on moisturising and easing up on exfoliants. You could even invest in a humidifier to help your skin retain hydration and ease any itching. Better yet, take a trip to your local spa and book a luxury facial to brighten your skin, giving you a healthy, glowing complexion, even on the darkest days.

Make a Luxury Hot Chocolate

The warming comfort of a decadent hot chocolate on a cold day is unparalleled. Either nip to a nearby coffee shop and order their fanciest beverage or try your hand at making your own. All you need is milk and cream (or your alternative of choice), dark chocolate, brown sugar and cocoa powder. Feel free to add any extras to make your drink super luxurious - marshmallows, squirty cream, vanilla extract, caramel syrup or even a healthy glug of Irish cream liqueur.

Have a Wine and Cheese Night

Often, when you’re feeling low, some good company is just what the doctor ordered. Head to your local wine merchants and pick up a few bottles, then pop to the deli counter and select some fine cheese varieties to compliment your vino. You could get creative by arranging a stunning charcuterie board, complete with accompaniments such as grapes, crackers and chutneys. All that’s left to do is invite around some loved ones and enjoy an evening of sumptuous culinary delights.

Netflix and Chill

Now, this doesn’t necessarily mean inviting a special somebody over with an ulterior motive. Sometimes, bingeing your favourite show or having a movie marathon is the perfect way to spend a cold, dreary day. Don your fluffiest pyjamas, gather your favourite snacks and lose yourself in your streaming service of choice.

Get Some Cosy Clothes

A new outfit can do wonders for your self-esteem by giving your confidence a boost, so why not treat yourself to a cosy garment that will make you look and feel fabulous? Fabrics such as cashmere are exceptionally practical for winter - lightweight and breathable, yet able to retain up to three times more heat than standard woollens. Search for the perfect women’s cashmere jumper in a versatile colour so you can style it with various outfit choices, keeping you warm and stylish all winter long.

Buy Some Winter Boots

Weather-appropriate footwear is essential during winter, not only to keep your feet nice and toasty but to keep you safe in icy conditions. Slippery patches of ice are notorious for causing nasty injuries such as sprains, strains and even concussions. Avoid this by investing in a high-quality pair of boots with slip-resistant outsoles and cushioned footbeds. Maximise comfort and cosiness by wearing your new boots with thick, thermal socks.

Cook Yourself Something Fancy

Nourishing your body with tasty, healthy meals will help maintain a robust immune system, keeping away those winter bugs and sniffles. Hearty, home-cooked dishes such as soups, stews and casseroles will warm your body from within. Be sure to up your intake of vitamin C with fresh fruits and vegetables and vitamin D with oily fish, red meat and eggs. If cooking isn’t your forte, consider this as your sign to don that chef’s hat and begin refining your culinary skills.

Redecorate

The aesthetic of your home determines the mood it exudes. If you feel as though your home is looking a little dull and dated, a lick of paint or a good furniture swap-around could breathe fresh life into your living quarters. You don’t need to begin a whole host of overwhelming DIY projects - consider simple touches that make a significant difference. Add plush fabrics, rich, textural layers and warm tones to encourage a warm, inviting atmosphere.
